Dr Rebecca Knickmeyer
Rebecca Knickmeyer’s research interests include the relationship between hormones and behaviour and the impact of factors during pregnancy on later development.
She received a B.A honors in biology and a B.A. honors in interdisciplinary studies (psychology, anthropology, and biology) from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, where she was awarded a degree with distinction, general honors, and the Jessie L. King for outstanding work in the sciences, particularly mammalian physiology or microbiology.
Previous research investigated the effect of phytoestrogens (hormone-like substances found in plants) on maternal behaviour.
She obtained her PhD in the ARC exploring whether foetal testosterone is a risk factor for developmental conditions including autism and Asperger syndrome. She took up a postdoc at Chapel Hill where she now studies developmental neuroscience.
