Kirsty Macmillan

I am currently an undergraduate student about to start the final year of my BSC Psychology (Applied) at Heriot-Watt University. Since 2009, I have worked with both children and adults with autism spectrum conditions (ASCs) in Edinburgh and the Lothians, predominantly for the Lothian Autistic Society. My roles include leading holiday playschemes for children with ASCs, providing respite to them and their families and working to help enable children and adults with ASCs to improve their access to mainstream facilities. I also volunteer at social clubs for children aged between 8 and 18 years with High-Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome which have been set up to enable them to participate in group activities and enhance their communication skills and understanding. In 2013,

I was awarded the Carnegie Vacation Scholarship under the supervision of Dr Mary Stewart (Heriot-Watt University). I conducted my own project which examined emotional processing across the lifespan with regards to autistic traits. At the ARC, I am currently assisting on the ASC-Inclusion Project.
