Community Engagement Coordinator
Matt Hassall is the ARC’s Community Engagement Coordinator. He works across all ARC research projects to facilitate the meaningful involvement of autistic people and the wider autism community in designing, conducting, and disseminating autism research. Matt is committed to the disability rights principle of ‘nothing about us without us’ and is motivated by a vision of autism research that is carried out by, with, and for autistic people.
Matt has a PhD in late Roman intellectual history from the University of Cambridge and has also published academically on corporate power in modern Europe. As a researcher, he is interested in power, justice, and the conditions under which communities engage in dialogue. He joined the ARC to translate these research interests into real, positive impact on the lives of autistic people. He lives in the Cambridge area with his partner, who is autistic.
Matt welcomes questions, ideas, and comments from members of the autism community and from colleagues who work in public engagement by email to mh2192@medschl.cam.ac.uk.
