Dr Bhismadev Chakrabarti   Reading University

I received my first degree in Chemistry, which made me interested in matters molecular. I then studied Molecular Biology and Neurobiology, slowly getting drawn to the latter. In my PhD on the perception of facial expressions of emotions in humans, I attempted to bring together two different approaches. The first was a bottom-up approach, in which I probed the influence of genetic variation in modulating behavioural and physiological response to different emotion expressions. The second, top-down approach, focussed on investigating the role of psychological traits (in particular, empathy), in modulating the behavioural and physiological response to different emotion expressions.

I study the response to emotions using multiple techniques, that include functional MRI, Galvanic Skin Response, Eye gaze tracking, and standard psychophysical techniques. My current work extends these threads of research.
