Omar Al-Rubaie

Doctoral Scientist

Omar is an intercalating medical student currently undertaking a PhD under Prof Simon Baron-Cohen, Prof Carrie Allison, and Dr Alex Tsompanidis. He is researching the relationship between autism, cardiometabolic health, and disease risk. He is also working on a biobank of high likelihood of autism placentas. 

In 2024 Omar was elected the president of Sheffield medical society, one of the largest in the country. Prior to this he sat on the British Medical Association’s (BMA) medical students committee (MSC) as a representative and has been a delegate to the BMA’s annual representative meeting from 2023 to 2026. In 2025, he was re-elected to the BMA MSC as the representative for the University of Cambridge and to the BMA International Committee. He currently sits on the BMA East of England regional council.
