Fully Funded PhD Studentship: Autism and Addiction
We are inviting expressions of interest from motivated individuals wishing to pursue a funded PhD starting in October 2026 exploring if autistic people are at elevated risk of developing addictions. This scholarship offers the equivalent of full funding at the home student rate for 3.5 years. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong academic background in psychology, neuroscience, medicine, or a related field, and a keen interest in autism research.
Please send a cover letter, together with a CV and brief research proposal, to Professor Simon Baron-Cohen (sb205@cam.ac.uk).
Research opportunities
The ARC is regularly advertising for research assistants and postdoctoral scientists, informaticians and project coordinators, among other roles. Vacancies are advertised on the Cambridge University jobs page.
PhD and MPhil Studentships
The ARC welcomes applications from prospective PhD and MPhil students who wish to pursue a research degree in the field of autism. We are interested to hear from people whose interests lie within any of our research programmes, who wish to extend any of the projects already underway at the ARC, or who wish to build on any of our past work.
Please send a brief research proposal and your curriculum vitae to our admin team. This will be forwarded to potential supervisors who will get in touch with you directly if your proposal fits with their existing work programme, and if there is capacity within the ARC in the following academic year. Please do not submit an application unless a potential supervisor from the ARC has agreed in principle to supervise your PhD or MPhil. The first step should be to email a potential supervisor informally to explore if there is a good fit between your research plan and existing ARC research priorities.
Some funding in the form of doctoral studentships is available competitively via the Department of Psychiatry, and applicants are also encouraged to apply for their own funding from interested charitable or governmental bodies.
Please note that to formally apply you will need to complete the University’s Online Application Form. The closing date for all October applications is 30 June. You will need to secure funding, and it’s important to note that many funding competitions have deadlines before Christmas preceding the year of entry.
Further information about graduate level studies and how to obtain funding can be found here.
Advice about submitting a formal application for a PhD or MPhil in the Department of Psychiatry is available by email from the Graduate Education Administrator, Adisa Broadhurst.
Postdoctoral Scientists
The ARC welcomes applicants from postdoctoral scientists, in any of our research programmes. Applicants should email our admin team with a research proposal, and should also consider applying to relevant charities or governmental bodies for grant support.
From time to time, postdoctoral positions become available at the ARC. These are advertised on the Cambridge University jobs pages.
Research Assistants
Research Assistant positions are often available at the ARC. These are advertised on the Cambridge University jobs pages.
